~ Persephone ~

~ Persephone ~
The vale of Enna, where posies abound,

She tenderly plucks them from the ground,

Demeter as always, favors the soil,

With an abundance of growth that does not toil.
Oh sing a hymn to Demeter,

Suffer her anguish and pain,

Oh sing a hymn to Demeter,

Her Mysteries to obtain. Her Mysteries to obtain.
Hades spying from his dark, dank kingdom,

The girl glowing in the sun – her whimsical freedom,

Refuses to free the posies in hand,

And she falls and falls through the gap in his plan.
Demeter searches but can not find her precious Persephone,

To the ends of the earth, to no avail – all feel her agony,

In her grief no crops grew and famine threatened all,

The land lay bare and desolate, be it winter, spring, summer or fall.
Oh sing a hymn to Demeter,

Suffer her anguish and pain,

Oh sing a hymn to Demeter,

Her Mysteries to obtain. Her Mysteries to obtain.
From her Olympian abode she fled,

Disguised among mortals she bows her head,

Childless mother in grief and despair,

Nursemaid to another awaited her there.
The gift of immortality she would bestow,

By the burning fire that set his face aglow,

Had M not discovered her at her task,

By fire P would be immortal at last.
In time the culprit was revealed,

And to mighty Zeus she placed her appeal,

Hermes errant in his quest to Hades did descend,

Demanding the abductor release Persephone, his friend.
Hades refused with defiance and glee,

Stating Persephone did eat with me,

By this of course now she was bound,

A pomegranate held her beneath the ground.
Oh sing a hymn to Demeter,

Suffer her anguish and pain,

Oh sing a hymn to Demeter,

Her Mysteries to obtain. Her Mysteries to obtain.
Zeus in his wisdom devised a plan,

With authority he spoke; placed his demand,

Persephone would spend two-thirds with her mother,

And one-third time he gave to Hades; his brother.
Of Persephone it is often said,

When she lives with the dead,

The land lay in similitude.

But when she arises to greet the sun,

Demeter’s work is then begun,

And the land is born anew. And the land is born anew.
Oh sing a hymn to Demeter,

Suffer her anguish and pain,

Oh sing a hymn to Demeter,

Her Mysteries to obtain. Her Mysteries to obtain.

Rain drizzling down

Filtering slant of light beams

Arc of a rainbow.

Rush of Wind

Rush of Wind
When the wind comes sweeping down the vale

Russling leaf and limb

Swirling about the filed of flowers

And wheat tops tall and thin,

I often stand in awe of intangible touch

The wind I cannot see

But how it seems to rush
The sleepy little vale seems to come alive

As the wind keeps rushing

An impression of color sweeps by,

And as a moving canvas

The colors bleed and blend;

A moving Monet, copied by the wind.

~ Springs Subtle Seduction

~ Springs Subtle Seduction

What melodies sweep down the vale
Upon springs soft subtle breeze
What color greets the eye
On buds that bloom with ease
Gia has opened her arms once more
Gifting all that sustains
Dropping her veil capriciously
Where petals praise her very reign
Petals that sway and swoon
To melodies, breeze and allure
Reaching for the sun
That graces their shoots once more:
Gia has opened her arms
All are seduced by her charms.

~ Christmas Call to Action ~

~ Christmas Call to Action ~

Christmas candles all aglow
Outside, swirling, whirling,drifting snow
Soft and low ole Bing is singing
The ‘Bells of Christmas’ ringing, ringing

Presents scattered beneath the tree
Ribbons, bows; silver-gold mystery
Tiny hands reaching, eyes of delight
Reflecting flickering colors bright

The season of giving, of thankful hearts
Reunions of families living miles apart
Stories of old cheerfully shared
Current blessings in praise declared:

The giving to others, those in great need
With open hearts graciously received
Tis the theme, season, truthful meaning
Tis the hand of God intervening

My opinion…Christmas should last all year
Imagine life’s changed, poverty to disappear
Tiny tummies fully feed, hunger- a ghost of past
The homeless, our Veterans sheltered at last

Perhaps the greatest Christmas call should be
A universal attempt at harmony; the savior of humanity!
