~ The Flurry Folk

~ The Flurry Folk
Sitting on a cloud so high

Slate grey haven in the sky
The Flurry Folk work all year

Making flakes with lots of cheer
While Ole Man Winter soundly sleeps

The Flurry Folk happily guard his keep
As the Winter Solstice slowly arrives

The pile of flakes come alive
No two created quite the same

Each snip reflects the Flurries name
There’s Clipper, Chris and Kross

Selected for the flakes to toss
While Windy blows up quite a storm

To awaken Winter from his bed soft and warm
Recovered from his long, long rest

Releasing a howl from his chest
Mighty how the winds do blow

As the flakes swirl into piling snow
Clipper from his slate grey cloud

Announces to the flurries out loud
“Come gather! Come all and toss

Less our season of fun be a lost!”
Then falling fast and furiously

Mounds of snow for all to see
Children laughing with delight

To wake within a world so white
Carefree sledding down a hill

Feeling not Winters, Nip and Chill
The Flurry Folk watch with no surprise

The wonderment in each child’s eyes
After all they work all year

To bring the child Winters cheer.

~ Woeful Fairy

 ~ Woeful Fairy
I am of the woodlands

Flit about here and there

Spy humans

When amongst leaflets

I sit, I stare
I am of folklore

Of stories told

Of nursery rhyme

Imaginations beauty

Borne on words of humankind
Guardian of the wee ones

Lost beneath my canopy

Searching for glint of light

I guide them mysteriously
My woodlands are in danger

And my stories few

As people stop believing

Felling my forests, fables too
Soon, children will forget me

As barren lays the land

Where, what shall I call home

When our forests no longer stand?
I’ll simply drift from memory

From fun time story time

And the magick of the fairies

Will cease to live in nursery rhyme
From nursery rhyme we will be gone

But be assured we will live on…
We need an advocate to say it isn’t so;

We mustn’t let the fairylands go!

~ Pieces of the Sun

~ Pieces of the Sun
As a child catching fire flies one by one

I thought them pieces of the sun
Placed on night stand safe in mason jar

I’d watch each flicker, think of places afar,

Beyond the heavens, beyond each star
My imagination running free and wild

I’d weep in the morning as many a child
Who thought they’d caught pieces of the sun

And while sleeping, they’d died out, one by one:
Even then I thought of poor Icarus; wings of wax and the burning sun.

~ I Sing A Song of Years…

I sing a song of years…

And meadows full of flowers
Flowers drawing the butterfly

The finch, the lark, an open sky

And a little girl who dared to fly
Flying away through the years

Hopes and dreams void of fears

Oh the laughter! Oh the tears!
Bittersweet some memories

Love and loss simultaneously

Chapters continuously revealed to me
Overwhelming that first cry

Singing their first lullaby

So hopelessly in love was I
My little meadow of flowers grown

Parts of me within them shown

Daring to spread their wings, now flown
I sing a song of years…

And meadows full of flowers

Now, Watching my grand children bloom.
