~ I Know

I know…

I know our loved ones

Are never really gone

Look into the child’s eyes

Their essence still lives on

A composite of descent

Parents, siblings, ancestors too

Traits these wee ones display

While interacting with you –

A sudden reconigtion

A sudden spoken word

Reminiscent of the loved one

Their presence seen, felt, heard

A smile that brings comfort

A hug that warms the heart

Perhaps it’s the infants, children

Keeping us from falling apart:

I know our loved ones

Are never really gone

Look into the child’s eyes

Their essence still lives on.

Dedicated to my stepson, Benjamin, who recently lost his brother US Airforce Senior Airmen, Zachary – Benjamin and his wife are expecting their first child, these words are to comfort, as children so often do.
