~ Broken Spell

~ Broken Spell

Day unfolded as if A spell of spun gold

Ribbons, layers of ribbons
Adorned the brilliance
In colour coded stratus clouds infused
Taking flight, the mighty eagle soars majestic
An Icarus, I feared he’d touch the sun
Only to dive swift towards the placid waters
Where the fir pines stand as sentinels at guard
Roaming the banks the white tail cautious
Nearing the waters edge to satiate nights thirst
In tow, freckled fawns times three frolic
With sudden need all attempt to feed pushing, shoving
Squirrels scamper from limb to limb
They – natures acrobats perform –
Circling the tree base round and round and round
As if they too know to play, “catch me if you can”
A sudden splash and all goes quiet
The waters ripple out in circles upon circles
The fisherman has arrived, tackle box in tow;
Broken is freedoms spell as he nets his first catch
