~ An Elderly Lament ~

They sup with sorrow

Lay down with loneliness,

Rise with regret;

Drawing curtains tight

Blocking out ‘the light’

Holding self-soliloquies

And tables set for two

Expecting the unexpected;

Wondering as they wait…

Why ‘Time’ has left them age[less]

Tender falls the tear

Pools in laughter lines

When life was lovely;

Evolved in furrow, frown

Eyes, head cast down

As, they sup with sorrow…

Lay down with loneliness.
